Acer x freemanii is a cross of Red Maple (Acer rubrum) and Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum) which combines favorable attributes of both species.  The hybrids are popular for the upright, oval habit and vibrant fall color with fast growth and tolerance of adverse soil conditions.  The differences between different cultivars are usually specific to fall color, sterility and branching.
