Interesting Notes about Jewels-of-Opar:
Generally grown as an annual this showy plant tolerates heat and drought and is perfect for growing in containers, but it can grow in-ground as is quite common in South America where it is referred to as a tender perennial. The tap root and seedlings can become invasive so it is primarily grown in containers to minimize the spread. There are loads of flowers which are short-lived, but they are followed with coppery-colored seed heads which are attractive too. The foliage when stressed will become an even more vibrant color.
