Interesting Notes about American Filbert:

The most attractive part of this plant visually is the formation of the hazelnuts in late summer. The nut is very tasty and somewhat easy to shell. Besides being prized by humans, however, the squirrel population loves them, as do deer, woodpeckers, pheasants and other birds.
