Interesting Notes about Maple:

Acer x freemanii is a cross of Red Maple (Acer rubrum) and Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum) which combines favorable attributes of both species.  The hybrids are popular for the upright, oval habit and vibrant fall color, along with fast growth and tolerance of adverse soil conditions.  The differences between cultivars are usually specific to fall color, sterility and branching.  The tree does produce fruit which are referred to as samaras (or helicopters) that mature in fall, and are usually sparse or non-existent on the hybrids.
