Interesting Notes about Red Oak:
Fairly fast to grow this handsome and stately tree is valued for its adaptability and hardiness. This is a tough tree that prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil, but is acclaimed for its tolerance to drought and poor soils. It is susceptible to chlorosis when soils are not sufficiently acidic. Protect from hot winds. The small acorns provide food for wildlife and are poisonous to humans if eaten before toxins are leached out by boiling.
