Though a smaller tree in size than the Eastern Redbud, this variety will produce flowers that will cover almost every square inch of this plant.

  • Rosy purple flowers in spring
  • Upright, multi-stemmed shrub or tree
  • Flowers very prolific

Quite a beauty in the sunny woodland or shrub border, but it is also happy in large containers or as a street tree.  Best in eastern and central Kansas.

Height: 10-12 ft
Spread: 10-12 ft
Zone: 6-9
Color: Pink, Purple

Interesting Notes about Chinese Redbud:

Chinese Redbud is perfect for the naturalized setting and prefers full sun, but will take some shade especially when summers are extremely hot.  Once tree is established it is difficult to transplant due to a long tap root.  This variety is best planted in a protected area with thick layer of mulch because it is susceptible to winter damage.  There is a sensitivity to dry or heavy clay soil types.
