Hydrangea with large mophead flowers that bloom all summer and are either pink or blue depending on the soil pH.

  • Fabulous bloomer with a dwarf habit
  • Large mop-head blooms
  • Pink flowers fade to greenish-brown in fall

Ideal as a specimen or accent in a shrub border or by house foundations, plus can be planted in hedge formation. Will grow best in eastern and central Kansas.

Height: 2-4 Feet
Spread: 3-4 Feet
Zone: 5-9
Color: Blue, Pink

Interesting Notes about Bigleaf Hydrangea:

In high pH soils, flowers will be pink rather than blue. This is tied to the availability of aluminum in the soil (less availalbe in high pH soil - almost all of Kansas), which is needed to develop the blue pigment. Treatments to change flower color must be applied well before flower development.
